Something I found out recently was created by James Paul
Although I didn't fully board at Ravenswood there are many that did. After Ravenswood I was sent to King's College Taunton to fully board whilst my parents went through a terrible divorce.

The effects of being separated by my parents at such an important time in my life change me forever.

I have recently found out why I have had such difficulty in maintaining stable relationships and have difficulty trusting partners, friends and workmates.

If you can relate to this and would like to know more, then you can read this website below or reply to this topic and I will do what I can to help.

There are You Tube videos that you can watch which really opened up my understand to what happened to me all those years ago.

If you search for these you will start to find some answers.

Not all people come out of boarding school with difficulties in adult life, but for some like me it is good to know there is help.

You can contact me here or on our facebook page.

Many thanks

Hi James
I was at Ravenswood from 1946 to 1951. I found that whie I enjoyed Ravenswood more than Kelly where I went afterwards i now realise that overall it really affected my life very badly though I am only now realising it. It destroyed my relationship with my parents and made me very awkward in company. I now realise that this was due to a sinlge teacher in my first year. - Miss Hallett. She tended to keep discipline in her classes by picking on a chid and ridiculing him and saying to the class that if you don't behave this is how I will treat you. Unfortunately at age 8 I had to start wearing glasses and that made me an immediate target. Left handed boys were made to write with thier right hands - of course the wiring was terrible and they copped it again.
I have very fond memories of Mr Schuster and Mr Huish (Mr Sparks's deputy, but overall it was not a happy time
I live in Australai now so any contact yo have won't be of any use to me.
I would really love to have a reunion at the school though - it was a lovely building and grounds
Regards

Hi Jerry,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic. Having two boys who are currently in primary school I am so relieved to know that unacceptable behaviour by teachers and staff at schools has changed (on the whole) for the better. Sadly bullying is still common and I find it hard to see an end to that.

Childhood defines us all and to be able to reflect and share our experiences will help future generations establish children's education as a positive and exciting experience for all.

Kind regards

James
